Here at the NCTA, we pride ourselves on providing a highly supported and effective programme for all initial teacher trainees. We are very conscious of the pressure the training year brings and are wholeheartedly committed to responding to the needs of our trainees during this time.

Each trainee has an experienced and skilled mentor and is further supported by the ITT co-ordinator.

Trainees will be immersed in school life, having the opportunity to be involved a wide range of activities including school trips and extra-curricular. These experiences are not limited to their host school but could potentially run across the YHCLT.

Alongside their provider support, each trainee accesses the bespoke CPD programme that has been developed to address areas they will encounter in their training year e.g managing workload and keeping mentally healthy. Termly network meetings provide trainees opportunities to discuss key issues and chat with other trainees in an informal and friendly environment.

The NCTA has fostered strong partnerships with a select group of local providers for the placement of ITT trainees across the alliance.

In the secondary sector, the NCTA works closely with Humber Teaching School based in Healing (Grimsby), YHTT (Blueprint Alliance), St Mary’s School Direct and Hull University for which both Newland School for Girls and Kelvin Hall School act as main placement schools.

Our primary schools are currently developing links with Hull SCITT and are building their capacity to train.

If you are interested in training at any of our MAT/Alliance schools, please contact for guidance on appropriate providers and ways into teaching.
